Northwest University is a privately owned university that is located in Kalambaina Industrial Layout, Wammako LGA, Sokoto State, Nigeria, near BUA Cement Company, Kalambaina Road. The university is part of the private universities that are situated in Sokoto.

Northwest University, Sokoto, was a conceived plan to expand access to quality higher education in the northwest region of Nigeria and to complement national and regional educational goals. The idea for the establishment of the university started in 2014 by the founder and proprietor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Following the idea’s birth in 2014, the application for the establishment of the university was submitted to the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2020 before it was approved in 2022.
