Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu University was established in 2022 following the approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and it was granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to begin academic activities and operation.

Approved in 2022, the institution commenced academic activities in 2023 with a partial certificate, but in 2025, the university achieved a milestone after securing full approval to commence institution from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu University establishment was an idea that was headed by the head of the Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu University foundation, but before the university was completed, he passed away, and the project was later completed by his son, and the university was named after the founder of the university.
